Le Bailliage du Greater Washington, DC Chapter

Membership of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs is by invitation only. Most new members join through recommendation by friends who are already members, but it is also possible to obtain information directly through our national Chapters (or Bailliages as they are referred to within the Chaîne). While most Chapters welcome new members, some have waiting lists. Chaîne membership offers great opportunities to meet people who share a common interest in fine dining and good friendship. Members are also made to feel especially welcome when patronizing Chaîne member establishments such as hotels and restaurants.

There are two types of Chaîne membership:

Once the Siège Mondial receives the membership application form, a 'nomination' for induction is sent to the member along with a membership card, which entitles the new member to attend any events locally or internationally as well as the opportunity for a vote at the Annual General Meeting. At the induction ceremony, the new member is formally received into the Society and receives the appropriate colored ribbon and diploma.

Both Professional and Non-Professional members have the chance to meet at Chaîne events locally, nationally and internationally and we strongly encourage our non-professional members to discover and visit member establishments.

All chapters offer fine dining events, often black tie, in the best local restaurants and hotels. The menus and dishes are created exclusively for these dinners by the chefs, many of whom are also members of the "Confrérie". This interaction between our professional and amateur members distinguishes the Chaîne from other organizations. The activities of the Chaîne are not limited to grand dining. "Dîners Amicaux", which are less formal meals such as picnics and barbecues, are part of many chapters' schedule. Members may also attend events in other countries.

"Grand Chapitres", events when members are inducted, are three days social and educational events that culminate in the induction of new members. Chapitres are similar events but are less than three days in duration, and new members are also inducted during these events. Our Baillis Délégués and their teams put a great deal of time and energy into organizing these Grand Chapitres and Chapitres, major Chaîne celebrations which provide members with the ideal opportunity to visit Bailliages in other countries, to meet new people and fellow Confrères, as well as get inducted.

Benefits Of Membership

Membership includes a subscription to the U.S. Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Gastronome, a full color high-quality magazine that reports on culinary events around the country and provides a calendar of forthcoming opportunities. Members also receive an annual guide to Chaîne-affiliated restaurants, hotels and cruise ships, all of whom are entitled to display the Chaine plaque - a symbol of culinary excellence recognized around the world. Fellow members can anticipate being made especially welcome when patronizing Chaîne membership establishments. National dues are set by Chaîne des Rôtisseurs National Office.

A new benefit of being a member of la Chaîne is becoming a part of the Ambassador Corps, which is open to all members.  Under the direction of Chancelier des Etats-Unis (Chancelier of the United States) Sandi Miller, the Corps will put you in touch with confrères across the globe.  When you are planning a trip, inform the national office of when and where you will be traveling, and the national office will initiate contact with the local Bailliage on your behalf.  It is wonderful to enjoy the friendship and camaraderie of Chaîne members in other countries. You know how welcoming you would be to foreign confrères visiting your home turf; the same is true whenever and wherever we travel abroad. Being an Ambassador can enhance your travel experience, as there is nothing that can compare to local knowledge and introductions for great meals, wine tastings, and deepening your understanding of a different culture.

Local Membership fees for the Bailliage of Greater Washington, DC

The local dues for the Washington DC chapter are $300 annually which are used to support our wine cellar. Wines are selected from the cellar and are provided to the members for virtually every dinner.  The local dues enables the Washington, DC Bailliage to obtain wines which enhance the combined dining experience of exquisite food paired with extraordinary wines.
